A BRIEF HISTORY
In 1989, The Mystic Krewe of the Lords of Leather sponsored a contest for Mr. New Orleans Leather. In 1993 the contest grew to encompass the geographic area of the state by evolving into the Mr. Louisiana Leather Contest. The title is nationally recognized and acknowledged by the leather community worldwide. The winner becomes eligible to compete in International Mr. Leather (IML) held annually in Chicago.

CONTESTANT MEET AND GREET
Applications for contestants are accepted up until the start of this function.  It is 100% your responsibility that your application has been received by the krewe if mailed or delivered.  Contact the contestant coordinator to verify.  If you're bringing it to the event be sure to have your application completed and sponsorship monies in hand.  The Meet and Greet is your opportunity to meet the other contestants but more importantly to meet each of the judges individually.  Make a point to locate the judges and personally introduce yourself to them. If you don't know who the judges are, ask a krewe member. They want to meet you as much as you NEED to meet them. There's no points given for this function but first impressions mean alot!

CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS
Interviews will last approximately 15 minutes per contestant. Each judge will ask questions to understand more about you and your desire to become Mr. Louisiana Leather 2009. You may dress as you wish for the interview. Water and soft drinks will be provided. Lunch will also be served at the end of the contestant’s interviews. This will afford contestants additional interaction time with the judges.

REHEARSAL
Rehearsal is at 6:30 PM at The Marigny Theatre. This is not a dress rehearsal. Water and soft drinks will be provided. NOTE: Due to changes in production staging, rehearsal timing is at the discretion of the stage manager.

THE CONTEST
You must be in the venue (with your gear) and check in with the contestant coordinator by 6:30 PM. The contest begins at 8:00 PM.
Judging consists of four categories:
  1. Street Wear – Your attire should best represent your leather lifestyle/fetish.
  2. Jockstrap – Minimal jockstraps are allowed and encouraged, total nudity is not allowed in the venue.
  3. Speech – The speech is strictly limited to 90 seconds. There is no required subject matter. Platform, leather ideals, goals and objectives are acceptable, but not required.
  4. Interview
THE TOP THREE
Medallions, trophies, and cash awards are presented to the Winner along with First and Second runners up. The winner of Mr. Louisiana Leather 2009 receives a custom studded leather sash, a trophy, an engraved medallion, cash award, and 500.00 towards his expenses to compete in International Mr. Leather in Chicago, Memorial Day 2009. First Runner Up receives an engraved medallion, a trophy and cash award. Second Runner up receives an engraved medallion, a trophy and a cash award.
